For the fourth consecutive year, Citytv has been named the best local TV station by the readers of NOW Magazine.

Citytv beat out competitors CTV Toronto, CP24, Global, and CBC Toronto to claim the prize. Readers voted online over the past 12 months in a number of categories, including books, movies, art and music.

“Anytime people take the time to sit down and think about their choice and actually cast a vote in your honour is a tremendous honour,” veteran CityNews anchor Gord Martineau said at the Thursday-morning ceremony.

“This is a great award for Citytv. Thank you very much,” he added.

NOW co-founder and co-owner Michael Hollett said: “We’ve got 354,000 readers a week, we’ve got over a million viewers monthly online, and over 80,000 people voted in this poll, which is quite remarkable.

“The best of Toronto is represented here today,” he added.

CityNews offers daily newscasts during Breakfast Television, at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m., and last month, launched the 24-hour CityNews Channel – the only high-definition, 24-hour news channel in Toronto.  The CityNews Channel is also available online at CityNews.ca/live and via the CityNews app for iPhone and iPad.

According to BBM Canada, CityNews Channel is now among the Top 5 digital networks in the highly-competitive Toronto market after just one month on the air.
