Colgate-Palmolive recalls ‘exploding’ toothbrush

Health Canada is warning consumers about an electric toothbrush Colgate-Palmolive has recalled after learning it could explode.

The company has received nine reports in Canada of its Colgate Motion Electric Toothbrush bursting open, although it says none of the incidents have caused major injuries.

“The company has assured [us] that they are monitoring, investigating and responding to consumers regarding reports of exploding toothbrushes and has stopped sale of the [toohbrush]” Health Canada said in a statement released Wednesday.

The device has both a rotating and stationary brush, and the motor and battery are in the handle.

Colgate-Palmolive no longer makes the toothbrush, but it might still be found in some Canadian stores.

For more information, call the company at 1-800-268-6757 or email motion@colpal.com.
