Wrong-way driver on Hwy. 407 arrested for impaired driving

Police arrested a motorist for alleged impaired driving after he was spotted travelling the wrong way on Highway 407 early Wednesday.

This incident happened just over a day after a fatal crash on the QEW involving a wrong-way driver.

The OPP received several calls around 3 a.m. reporting an SUV travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the 407 near Pine Valley Drive. The 44-year-old driver got off the highway at Jane Street after hitting several objects. Officers then took the motorist into custody near Major Mackenzie Drive.

No other vehicles were struck and no injuries were reported.

The driver’s name hasn’t been released and he’s being held for a bail hearing.

An 83-year-old Guelph man was killed Monday night when he collided with another vehicle while he was driving the wrong way on the QEW near Burlington.
