Man seriously hurt in garage explosion in Nobleton

An elderly man was seriously hurt in a garage explosion in Nobleton on Saturday.

Neighbours heard a blast that caused the roof of the garage to partially cave just before 4 p.m. at a home at 41 Elizabeth Dr., near King Road and Highway 27.

The 81-year-old man inside the garage was conscious when paramedics arrived, according to a neighbour. York Regional Police said the man suffered injuries to his leg, arm and abdomen. He’s expected to undergo surgery and is expected to survive.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released. He was the only person hurt in the incident.

Fire officials are investigating the cause.
