Occupy protesters arrested during march on Wall Street

New York City police arrested dozens of protesters on Thursday in the city’s financial district after Occupy Wall Street protesters attempted to march on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

At the corner of Pine Street and Nassau Street, just blocks from the NYSE, police made their arrests, dragging Occupy protesters away after they took over and blocked the intersection.

The action by the protesters had been announced days before as a “Day of Action” in an attempt to shut down the stock exchange.

Since Sept. 17, demonstrators have occupied nearby Zuccotti Park to protest what they see as an unjust economic system that favors the wealthiest one per cent at a time of persistently high employment. They also decry a political system that bailed out banks after reckless lending sparked the financial crisis.
