2 youths charged in videotaped downtown beating

Two youths have been charged for an assault caught on video in which a woman was beaten on Yonge Street. That video was posted on a hip hop website over the weekend.

A 15-year-old Brampton girl was the first to be arrested.  She’s facing charges of assault causing bodily harm.  Later Tuesday police said a second female youth had been arrested and charged.  She has also been charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Investigators are still searching for female teen believed to be involved. Police say they also want to talk with two men, described as persons of interest.

Bystanders cheered as a verbal argument between the woman, who claimed to be pregnant, and three young women escalated outside a Burger King just south of Dundas on Nov. 26. A bottle was broken and the trio then began hitting and kicking the victim as she lay on the ground crying.

Const. Tony Vella told CityNews.ca that the targeted woman in the video was not pregnant at the time of the attack. She did suffer serious, but non life-threatening injuries. A woman passing by came to the woman’s aid as the beating ended.

“Officers have identified her, spoke with her in depth. She is not pregnant,” Vella said. “Officers … are urging the suspects to turn themselves in.”

Video of the attack received media attention after it was posted on the site World Star Hip Hop.
