Candlelight vigil held at Virginia Tech after shooting

A candlelight vigil was held Friday night for the officer who was shot and killed Thursday during a traffic stop at Virginia Tech University.

Deriek Crouse, 39, leaves behind a wife and five children and step-children.

Police say the alleged gunman, 22-year-old Ross Truett Ashley, then took his own life.

Police say Ashley had no connection to or contact with Crouse before Thursday’s shooting.

Students are on campus preparing for final exams, which will be written Saturday.

Virginia Tech is the site of one of the worst shooting rampages in U.S. history. In April 2007, 33 people were killed when a student went on a shooting rampage.
