‘Bridesmaids’ actress Melissa McCarthy snags Screen Actors Guild nomination

This summer’s breakout comedy and a southern race drama came up big when the Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations were announced Wednesday.

Bridesmaids actress Melissa McCarthy was nominated for best supporting actress and the film itself is up for outstanding performance by a cast.

In that category, Bridesmaids is up against The Help, which racked up four nominations.

Two Citytv shows were nominated in the television categories, with 30 Rock and Modern Family battling it out for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series.

And those shows are also in a three-way fight in the best actor and best actress columns, with Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Ty Burell and Eric Stonestreet (both from Modern Family) vying for the prize.

30 Rock’s Tina Fey is up against Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen from Modern Family.

The Artist, which Maclean’s film critic Brian D. Johnson called “one of the most dreamy, easy-going confections you’re ever going to see…and a real contender for Best Picture [at the Oscars],” is up for three awards.

The silent movie about silent movies saw star Jean Dujardin nominated for best actor, and Berenice Bejo nominated for best supporting actress. The Artist is also up for best performance by a cast.
