Citytv to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a massive party & new app

The fireworks are ready, the performers are booked, and our hosts are mastering the countdown as Citytv gears up for the 2012 New Year’s Eve Bash. Adding to the excitement of this year’s massive live party downtown is a new iPad app that will let you celebrate with us no matter where you are.

In what will be our 27th year hosting the party, Citytv is taking over Nathan Phillips Square for the free event on Saturday Dec. 31 at 10 p.m.. It will be an alcohol-free party and people of all ages are welcome.

If you can’t make it downtown, the event will be broadcast live on Citytv, Citytv.com and the Citytv App for iPad and iPhone.

The show will be hosted by CityNews anchor Gord Martineau; Breakfast Television’s Kevin Frankish and Dina Pugliese; and CityLine host Tracy Moore.

Karl Wolf, JRDN, George Canyon, and the cast of American Idiot are all scheduled to perform on Dec. 31.

Adding to the party this year is the brand new Citytv Social Stream App for iPad, which allows you to chat live with other Canadians who are watching the show – and send out New Year’s wishes from coast to coast.

The chat also connects to Twitter, featuring all tweets that include the hashtag #Citytv2012.

Keep a close eye on your screen because your comments may appear live on air during the show.

Other things you can do with the app: Share your thoughts of the performances and photos from your New Year’s Eve party; vote in our polls; watch a countdown clock; and set off digital fireworks on your device from wherever you are.

But the app isn’t just for our New Year’s Eve show: early next year, you’ll be able to use it to chat with other viewers of Citytv shows.

To download the Citytv Social Stream App for iPad now from the iTunes Canada App Store, visit www.itunes.ca/appstore.
