Wanted man falls to his death from apartment balcony

The province’s police watchdog is investigating after a 31-year-old man fell 12 storeys to his death at a Scarborough condominium while officers were at the address.

The fatal fall happened at 60 Town Centre Ct., near McCowan and Ellesmere, just before midnight Wednesday. The victim has been identified as Pardeep Singh Mann (pictured).

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said officers went to the address looking for Mann. As police in the hall were trying to talk to him through the door of a 21st-floor apartment, a neighbor told officers he was attempting to get onto their apartment balcony.

As Mann was attempting to climb over, the SIU says he fell and landed on a ninth-floor balcony. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SIU, which probes serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault involving police, has assigned five investigators to the case.

“We would like to know why the police were here and what kind of circumstances led them to come here,” said SIU lead investigator Allan Eaton.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call the SIU at (416) 622-2038 or 1-800-787-8529 ext. 2038.
