Citytv’s New Year’s Eve bash takes over Nathan Phillips Square

Citytv rang in the New Year with about 40,000 other people at Nathan Phillips Square Saturday night.

“6…5…4…3…2…1….Happy New Year!” hosts Gord Martineau, Tracy Moore, Dina Pugliese and Kevin Frankish said as the calendar flipped from 2011 to 2012.

The hosts and the crowd then began singing Auld Lang Syne.

The party kicked off at 10 p.m. and there were two stages this year to host seven incredible acts, including Backstreet Boy Howie D, Karl Wolf, band Neverest, the cast of the musical American Idiot, JRDN, Anjulie and Aleesia.

“It was absolutely incredible! The energy from the crowd; I couldn’t believe how many people there were,” Anjulie said after her performance.

“I love being with close family and friends on New Year’s. I think not what you do, it’s who you spend it with. And spending it here? With all of Toronto basically? It’s in my books as the best New Year’s ever.”

Martineau, Moore, Pugliese and Frankish hosted the massive event, the largest New Year’s Eve party in the country.

“Let’s hear you on the skating rink! On Bay Street!” Frankish shouted as the city approached 2012.

“There’s nothing like ringing in the new year with my second family at Citytv and the people watching us right across they country! We are family,” Moore said.

Remember the TTC is a great way to get to and from the party. The Red Rocket is offering free service starting at midnight. GO Transit will be free starting at 7 p.m.

If you can’t make it down to the party in-person, you can watch the fun at home on Citytv, Citytv.com and on the Citytv Video App for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

You can also tune into Kiss 92.5 for the live simulcast.

Citytv also hosted a family fun day at Yonge-Dundas Square between noon and 8 p.m. for the kids who may not be able to stay up until midnight.

And the team at CityNews showed off their moves in a New Year’s video montage. Click the attached video to see it.
