Mother, uncle arrested in 2000 slaying of B.C. woman in India

The mother and uncle of a British Columbia woman murdered in India more than 11 years ago have been arrested and are awaiting an extradition hearing.
RCMP Cpl. Annie Linteau says the Supreme Court of B.C. issued arrests warrants under the Extradition Act earlier this week against Maple Ridge, B.C., residents Malkit Kaur Sidhu and Surjit Singh Badesha.
She says the two were subsequently arrested and are now in custody.
Linteau says that on June 8, 2000, 25-year-old Jaswinder Kaur Sidhu was murdered in Punjab, India, and her husband was seriously injured in the attack.
Linteau says seven other people have already been convicted in India on charges related to Sidhu’s murder.
She says the latest development culminates an exhaustive 11-year international investigation that involved the RCMP and Indian police.
