LCBO prices on some alcohol will go up March 1

The price for some LCBO alcoholic beverages will increase March 1.

LCBO spokesman Chris Layton told CityNews that no wines will be affected but the minimum prices will be adjusted to 10 per cent of spirits and three to four per cent of beers.

“Because it affects such a small number, consumers will hardly notice the difference,” Layton said. “In total only 1.5 per cent of all our products will be affected.” (The Liquor Control Board of Ontario carries about 18,000 products at its stores including The Beer Store outlets and winery stores.)

That means, for example, the price for a bottle of whiskey or scotch will go up by 50 cents to $23.90 from $23.40, he said.

A 24-case of beer will increase by 55 cents to $29.35 from $28.80, he said.

Layton said the minimum prices for alcohol are adjusted every year on March 1 in accordance with provincial legislation.
