Man charged after car plunges into Lake Ontario

A 19-year-old man has been charged after driving his car into Lake Ontario early Saturday morning.
Police say around 5 a.m., Hang Jiang was driving a Merecedes-Benz SUV south on Spadina Avenue, but instead of turning on Queens Quay where the road ends, he continued through the intersection, over the embankment and into the lake.
People in the area helped rescue Jiang as he tried to swim to safety, and he was treated at Toronto Western Hospital. The bystanders may be officially recognized for their efforts.
Jiang has been charged with impaired driving and over 80 milligrams operation.
He is scheduled to appear in an Old City Hall court on Feb. 21.
Jiang’s car was pulled from the water Saturday afternoon.
In a bizarre twist, a second car ended up in the frigid water after a crash in Scarborough late Saturday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the scene near Progress Avenue and Markham Road around 4:30 p.m.
An SUV leaving a carwash somehow ended up in a nearby ravine.
The driver wasn’t injured, and managed to pull himself out of the water on his own.
