Two people were sent to hospital after flames erupted at a home in Vaughan—one of two house fires that caused significant damage Monday morning.
Firefighters were called to a home on Arbourview Drive, near Rutherford and Keele, around 1 a.m. The flames apparently started in the garage and then spread to two floors.
Two people were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation and some neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution.
The damage is estimated around $400,000.
And just over two hours later another fire broke out at a home in Brampton.
Crews were called to 54 Caledon Cres., near Kennedy and Steeles, around 3:30 a.m. It took firefighters about an hour to knock down the two-alarm fire, which also, apparently, started in the garage.
A neighbour called in the emergency when she noticed the flames while having a late-night cup of tea.
“Before I did anything I called 911 and said one of the houses near me was on fire,” Jean Thompson said. “It was just a huge bright light that lit up the entire street.”
The family inside the burning house made it out safely with their pets and no injuries were reported.
