2 arrested in separate GTA home invasions

Toronto police have arrested a 53-year-old man after a violent home invasion near Bloor West Village early Tuesday morning.

Officers say Slavoljub Petrovic, also known as Louie, allegedly broke into a home near Bloor Street West and Runnymede Road while a 64-year-old woman and her 89-year-old mother were inside.

It’s alleged that Petrovic, armed with a knife and hammer, slashed the younger woman in the arm and fled with cash. The woman was treated in hospital for a non-life-threatening wound. Her mother was also taken to hospital after becoming ill during the robbery.

Petrovic was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with robbery, aggravated assault, weapons dangerous and forcible confinement.

Meanwhile, Durham police are looking for a suspect after a home invasion in Oshawa early Wednesday morning.

Two men say they were playing video games at a home on Sunset Drive, near Simcoe Street North and Rossland Road West, when two men burst in, armed with a mallet and knife.

A struggle ensued, and one of the victims and one of the suspects ended up with serious head injuries. They were taken to hospital and are expected to recover.

Matthew McMillan, 23, has been charged with possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, robbery, breaking and entering and disguise with intent. He is in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

The other suspect, who escaped, is described as white, about six feet tall, with a skinny build and facial tattoos. He was dressed in black.

And late Wednesday afternoon, Durham investigators revealed they were on the hunt for suspects after another violent home invasion in Pickering.

Police say on Tues. Jan. 17 at around noon, a 25-year-old victim was home alone when three suspects knocked on his door. When the victim answered, the three men, one of whom was allegedly armed with a handgun, burst into the apartment, physically assaulting and restraining the victim.

The suspects allegedly ransacked the apartment and fled with cash. The victim suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Suspect number one is described as a light-skinned black male, approximately 5’5” tall, wearing a purple coat and toque and brandishing a silver handgun.

Suspects number two and three are described as male, black, approximately 5’10” tall with thin builds, wearing puffy jackets and balaclavas.
