Police probe spate of crashes across GTA

Police across the GTA responded to a string of crashes early Sunday morning.

Around 12:30 a.m., a pickup truck plowed into a storefront on Jane Street near Langstaff Road in Vaughan, also colliding with other cars and a pole.

Police believe the driver had a medical condition.

About two hours later, a car ran into a pole on an icy Rutherford Road South, near Clarence Street, in Brampton.

Emergency crews extracted the driver and passenger from the front seats and took them to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Two people in the back were not hurt.

And in Toronto, two vehicles also hit poles in incidents about an hour apart.

The first happened around 5 a.m. on Yonge Street near Steeles Avenue. The driver, though injured, is expected to recover. The cause of the crash is not yet known.

And around 6 a.m., a van smashed into a pole at Birchmount and Danforth roads. The driver was not hurt.
