Woman in hospital after downtown crash

A 19-year-old woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle crash on Sunday morning.

The driver careened into a pole near Dundas and Jarvis streets around 4 a.m., police said. The 36-year-old man was later arrested.

Two other women, both passengers, were also injured in the collision. A 26-year-old woman has serious injuries and the third passenger had only minor injuries.

All three were reportedly taken to St. Michael’s Hospital in a taxi.

“Police arrived on scene but did not find the occupants here,” Toronto police Const. Clint Stibbe told CityNews.

“The driver did flee the scene. We do have that driver in custody and it appears that alcohol may have been a factor.”

Meanwhile, a woman has been taken to hospital as a precaution after a van crashed into a pole near Church and Shuter streets on Sunday.

That collision happened around noon.
