A canine trained in Canada has beat out an American champion at what some refer to as the Stanley Cup of dog shows.
Ace, a sleek black cocker spaniel, is basking in the glory of his victory after taking the “best in variety” title at the Westminster Kennel Club Show in New York City.
His Canadian handler, Marlene Ness, says the win is overwhelming because Ace triumphed over Beckham, a dog who took the show’s top prize last year.
Ness says Ace is an obedient, patient dog who “just goes with it.”
It was the two-year-old canine’s first time at the prestigious dog show.
Ness is now hoping Ace can break the record for the most “best-in-show” awards in his breed this year — he’s won 21 such titles so far and the current record sits at 29.
