Daredevil Wallenda cleared to cross Niagara Falls on tightrope

Daredevil Nik Wallenda has received approval to walk over Niagara Falls on a tightrope this summer.

The Niagara Parks Commission board gave its thumbs up at a public meeting this morning, reversing an earlier decision against the stunt.

Wallenda posted his response on Twitter.

“I was approved unanimously! Praise God for His unmerited favour!” he tweeted.

The board says it now has 45 days to work out details with the man who calls himself “King of the High Wire.” But the walk is expected to occur in August or September.

Wallenda was turned down in December, when the commission cited its policy against stunts.

But he met with senior staff earlier this month after talking to Ontario Tourism Minister Michael Chan about the proposal.

The board also said today that it will only consider requests for such stunts once every 20 years.
