Trumpet legend Doc Severinsen to play with the Toronto All Star Big Band

A group of local music students will get the rare chance to trade licks with a true legend Sunday when former band leader for the Johnny Carson show, Doc Severinsen, plays with the Toronto All Star Big Band (TABB).

The 84-year-old trumpet virtuoso will perform with TABB at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre at 2 p.m.

TABB is a swing band comprised of music students between the ages of 16 and 22. The band’s conductor and president, Zygmunt Jedrzejek, explained the significance of playing with Severinsen.

“They are very excited because it’s one of the trumpet legends…and it’s something I am sure they will cherish for the rest of their life,” he said.
