SIU investigates after man hurt in police custody

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in because a 24-year-old man was injured in police custody early Saturday morning.

Toronto police notified the SIU after the man broke his arm and needed treatment in hospital.

A release from the SIU said at 2:17 a.m., officers were called about a disturbance outside 868 Bloor St. W., near Ossington Avenue, and arrested the man there.

Five investigators and one forensic investigator will probe the case.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency which investigates cases involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
