The Academy Awards have installed some familiar faces on the red carpet.
The golden larger-than-life sized Oscar statues have been placed on the red carpet outside the Kodak Theatre in the lead up to the 84th annual Academy Awards.
Crews have been placing the golden boys, one by one, on the red carpet. The statues are left on the carpet under yellow plastic, to be unwrapped just before the show.
Media crews are also preparing for Hollywood’s big night, making trips to the carpet and working on their on-camera presentations.
“Yes, we’re really excited. We have been covering the Oscars for the past eight years and this is our ninth year covering it,” said Ni Jiang, a reporter from the Hong Kong Phoenix TV.
“This year we don’t have a Chinese film in the foreign film category but we are very excited to cover the biggest moment in Hollywood,” said Jiang.
The 84th annual Academy Awards will take place Sunday. Billy Crystal will host.
When producer Brett Ratner lost his job as producer of this year’s Oscar telecast after using an anti-gay slur on a radio program, followed by his host Eddie Murphy’s departure in solidarity, the Academy tapped favorite Crystal.
Crystal has hosted eight Oscars ceremonies since 1990, second only to Bob Hope, who hosted the event 19 times.
