A Toronto woman is facing a manslaughter charge after her 16-year-old daughter died in hospital last year.
Cynara Amiee Ali was taken to hospital on Feb. 19, 2011, after police responded to an unknown trouble call on Burrows Hall Boulevard, in Scarborough’s Markham and Sheppard area.
Ali died in hospital two days later.
Cindy Ann Sherry Ali, 41, had initially called police to report an armed home invasion. When the two men left her home, she said, her daughter was unresponsive. That home invasion never happened, police allege.
“There was no evidence to support that,” Const. Tony Vella said.
Cindy Ali was charged with manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, failure to provide the necessities of life, attempt to obstruct justice, public mischief and two counts of fabricating evidence, police said Friday.
Cynara Ali had severe disabilities, but the details have not been disclosed.
“I think she was so severely disabled she couldn’t be outside,” neighbour Ian Fox said.
Authorities aren’t releasing the cause of death because the case is before the courts.
At a court appearance Friday morning, Ali’s bail hearing was put over to March 14.
