Truck driver charged after dramatic rollover on Hwy. 403

Police have charged the truck driver involved in a dramatic crash that trapped a woman on Highway 403 in Mississauga earlier this week.

A tractor-trailer flipped on its side on the Highway 403 off-ramp to Dundas Street around 3 p.m. Monday. The rig landed on top of a Mazda CX7, trapping 38-year-old Editha Tobiasz inside. She wasn’t seriously hurt and was released from hospital the same day.

OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford said the woman escaped serious injury because the vehicles landed in a ditch.

“The depth of this ditch is what sort of saved her,” he said. “She went right in between and the truck went over on top so it didn’t completely squish the car, where it gave her enough room to stay uninjured really – minor injuries.”

The 52-year-old Mississauga truck driver was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
