Hamilton police officer hurt in crash

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating a collision in Hamilton involving a police cruiser.

A Hamilton police officer suffered minor injuries when his cruiser was struck a Jeep at the Garth Street interchange on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway (LINC) around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

The officer was directing traffic off the eastbound LINC when the accident happened.

The 56-year-old driver of the Jeep also suffered minor injuries.

The SIU, which is called in to investigate incidents involving police that result in injury, death or allegations of sexual assault, is looking into the circumstances of the crash.

The LINC was closed from Upper James Street to Highway 403 but the road was fully reopened by 2  p.m. Monday.
