Trailer for Toronto-shot ‘Total Recall’ released

Sony Pictures has released the trailer for Total Recall —one of the biggest budget movies ever shot in Toronto — but the special effects and lightning-fast action may make it hard to distinguish any key landmarks.

The remake of the 1990 sci-fi favourite starring Colin Farrell hits theatres in August, but the trailer has been circulating online since last week.

While Torontonians may love the action, they certainly didn’t love the road closure put in place to create it. Filming shut down a section of Lake Shore Boulevard West, between Parliament and Jarvis streets, for two days last July.

While the Total Recall trailer features lots of computer generated backgrounds, a snippet of a scene apparently shot at the downtown University of Toronto campus, is included.

The film had a $200-million budget. It also stars Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale and Bryan Cranston.
The original Total Recall won an Oscar for best visual effects and earned more than $260 million at the box office.
