Students occupy MPP Glen Murrray’s office over high tuition fees

Students occupied the Parliament Street constituency office of College and Universities Minister Glen Murray, Thursday afternoon, to protest tuition fees.

The statement, which includes quotes from Ryerson, York and George Brown students, says Ontario has the highest tuition fees in Canada, and Murray broke his election promise to reduce tuition fees by 30 per cent.

Fees are expected to go up by five per cent in fall 2012, resulting in a 71 per cent increase for many programs since 2006.

Ontario college and university students owe $9-billion in loans. The federal student debt figure, meanwhile, rings in at over $15-million.
