A 71-year-old woman has died in a fire in a west-end Toronto seniors’ home.
Antonia Abrego died of smoke inhalation during the two-alarm blaze that started on the 10th floor of Outlook Manor, a Toronto Community Housing Corporation building near Jane Street and Eglinton Avenue West.
Her daughter told CityNews she often used candles during prayer.
Toronto fire chief Bill Stewart said when his crews arrived at the apartment around 9 a.m., they found a small fire with lots of smoke.
Stewart said he didn’t see a smoke detector mounted in the bachelor unit, but the Ontario fire marshal is investigating.
The fire is estimated to have caused between $10,000 and $20,000 in damage.
