Daily Bread Food Bank launches weekend blitz as donations fall short

The Daily Bread Food Bank is hoping residents will dig deep this holiday weekend, as donations for the spring food drive have fallen short of what is needed to help feed some of Toronto’s most vulnerable.

So far, the drive has collected $142,000 and 42,000 pounds of food. This is well short of the goal of $300,000 and 300,000 pounds of food.

The spring food drive is scheduled to end April 13, but Daily Bread Food Bank Executive Director Gail Nyberg tells CityNews it may be extended unless there is a significant increase in donations this weekend.

Earlier this week, viewers donated almost $8,000 and about 13,000 pounds of food to Daily Bread Food Bank at the annual CityNews/BT spring food drive on Wednesday.
