Police investigating after string of hospital thefts

Police are investigating after a series of thefts at Toronto hospitals.

Officials at Princess Margaret Hospital tell CityNews a purse with a wallet inside was stolen from a patient’s room sometime last week.

The item still has not been recovered, and police have been notified.

And Toronto police are investigating two acts of theft at Toronto East General Hospital. They say on Mar. 20, a man was seen wandering the hallways, entering patient’s rooms while they were away.

Security officials at the hospital say two bags were stolen from two different patients.

At this point, it’s not clear if the thefts at the two hospitals are related. Police have released a security image of a person of interest in the Toronto East General thefts.

In 2010, several patients reported having items stolen from their GTA hospital rooms, including Toronto East General, Princess Margaret Hospital Lodge on Jarvis Street and York Central Hospital in Richmond Hill.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (416) 808-5400 or Crime Stoppers at (416) 222-TIPS.
