University researchers are studying the texting habits of Canadians as they try to learn how people are using the technology to communicate.
Academics at Simon Fraser University, Université de Montréal and University of Ottawa say they have already collected more than 8,000 text messages for a study called Text4Science.
Specifically, the project is looking at how Canadians are adapting their language as they text and whether texting is affecting the way people write.
According to a media release from SFU, messages that have been contributed have included 10 different ways to text laughter, including three variants of “LOL.”
Contributors have also shown 12 different ways to text OK, including “okay,” and “k.”
“See you” was four times as common as “c u.”
