Toronto chefs make their mark on Pearson airport

Pearson airport will soon house the city’s newest restaurant scene with the help of some of Toronto’s best-known chefs.

Top Chef Canada host Mark McEwan, Origin’s Claudio Aprile and Guy Rubino of Ame are among the chefs designing Japanese, rustic Italian and Indian street food menus for terminals 1 and 3.

“I think in a way the airport gives the traveller a deep impression as to what to expect when dining in that city,” Rubino said.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) announced Wednesday it had partnered with OTG Management, a food and beverage company overseeing services in 10 airports, including New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and O’Hare in Chicago.

Three restaurants and two cocktail bars are set to open late this year, with more restaurants and takeout counters coming in 2013.

Also, as part of the project, 2,500 Apple iPads will be installed for guests to order food, browse the web and check their flights.
