A cyclist died after a collision in Whitby early Monday morning.
The victim — a 59-year-old — was hit by a 2008 Pontiac G6 on Victoria Street, near South Blair Street, just before 6 a.m., Durham Regional Police said. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No charges have been laid against the 53-year-old woman driver who remained at the scene and co-operated with police during their investigation. Alcohol wasn’t considered to be a factor in the collision.
The cyclist’s name hasn’t been released. He was wearing a helmet, gloves, a reflective vest and had flashing lights in the front and rear of his bike.
Victoria was closed in both directions and police expected it would remain off-limits until the afternoon.
