Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch dead at 47

Only weeks after his band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Beastie Boys rapper Adam Yauch — also known as MCA — has died, according to the group’s website.

Yauch, who was diagnosed with a tumour in his salivary gland in 2009, died Friday morning in New York City after enduring three years of cancer. He was 47.

He  missed the Beastie Boys’ induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April, and his treatments delayed the release of the band’s latest album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2.

The Brooklyn-born musician co-founded the Beastie Boys as a hardcore punk group with Mike “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horowitz in 1981.

They began experimenting with hip-hop and soon became the first white rap group of any importance, best known for their hit Fight for Your Right (To Party).

The Beastie Boys have not performed in three years.

Yauch is survived by his wife, his daughter and his parents.
