Homicide detectives are investigating after a man’s body was found in a midtown park early Wednesday morning.
The victim was found near a playground in Oriole Park, in the Yonge Street and Chaplin Crescent area, around 3 a.m. after police responded to a 911 call that reported the sound of gunshots in the area. Investigators remained at the scene until early Wednesday afternoon when the coroner removed the body.
Police have only said the victim was in his late 20s or early 30s. His name and age haven’t been released. An investigator at the scene said the victim showed signs of “obvious trauma” but police are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
A police command post was set up for officers to conduct a grid search at the park.
“The officers are doing a search of the area so we can canvass the whole park, because it is a large park to check for evidence that we might find,” Det. Doug Dunstan said.
