A man has been charged after a multi-vehicle crash on the QEW on Wednesday morning that claimed a 23-year-old woman’s life.
The collision involving four vehicles happened around 3 a.m. on the Niagara-bound lanes at Mississauga Road. The westbound QEW was closed in the area until 10 a.m. for the investigation.
OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford said the chain-reaction accident started when a Lincoln Town Car rear-ended a Nissan Altima, causing it to spin out and hit the sound barrier wall.
The driver of the Lincoln got out of his vehicle after the initial crash, leaving his vehicle in a live lane. Shortly after the car was hit by a BMW, which spun out and was hit by a tractor-trailer.
The 60-year-old driver of the Town Car was charged with careless driving.
A woman who was a passenger in the BMW was rushed to Sunnybrook hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her name hasn’t been released.
The male driver of the BMW was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
