Pilot found dead after plane goes missing near Peterborough

A Quebec pilot, whose plane went missing on Monday, has been found dead, according to The Canadian Press.

The OPP said the wreckage was spotted from above in an inaccessible area near Hastings, Ont., on Thursday afternoon.

Police began searching for the four-seater plane after it failed to land at Buttonville airport in Markham after leaving from St-Mathieu De Beloeil, Que.

They focussed on the area near Rice Lake, where the plane was found, after getting several tips from the public.

A coroner was flown in by helicopter, and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada will also investigate.
