Tow truck drivers protest at Queen's Park

Hundreds of independent tow truck drivers converged at Queen’s Park Wednesday for a protest.

The truckers gathered at various points around the GTA, including at Brock Road and Highway 401 in Pickering, Woodbine and Steeles avenues, Keele and Wilson streets and Highways 400 and 9 Newmarket before they began heading downtown around 8:30 a.m.

“We will be making sure that the traffic flow is not interrupted,” OPP Sgt. Kathy McCormack said.

They’re travelled together along Highways 400, 401 and the Don Valley Parkway. The demonstration started at Queen’s Park at 10 a.m.

The drivers gathered to protest payments from insurance companies, who they accuse of price-fixing, and reported plans by the Ontario Provincial Police to contract out towing services.
