The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a recall for Compliments-brand bagged salad recalled over listeria fears.
There have been no reported illnesses.
However, Sobeys, Inc. is also warning that products made in their stores – like salads, sandwiches or wraps – could also contain contaminated lettuce.
Items purchased before May 19 from IGA and Sobeys stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Sobeys, Price Chopper, or Foodland stores in Ontario should be discarded and not consumed.
Food contaminated with listeria may not look or smell spoiled but the bacteria can cause foodborne illness. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.
Listeriosis may present itself with mild, flu-like symptoms in pregnant women but the illness can lead to premature delivery, infection in the newborn and even stillbirth.
For more information on this recall, call the Canadian Food Inspection Agency at 1-800-442-2342 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.
