Peel police officer dies after off-duty motorcycle crash

Constable Ewa Domagalska died in hospital after an off-duty motorcycle crash near Orangeville, Peel Regional Police confirmed Monday.

The 30-year-old officer was on life-support in hospital after she was involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Airport Road, north of Highway 9, just before 5 p.m. Saturday. Three motorcycles and an SUV were involved in the accident, police said.

Domagalska was travelling southbound when she collided with the SUV. She was rushed to St. Michael’s Hospital via air ambulance. Another woman on another bike was hurt, but not seriously. The third motorcyclist and the SUV driver weren’t injured.

Domagalska was taken off life support Monday morning, police said. A tweet from a police officer sparked false reports that Domagalska had died on Sunday.

The OPP is investigating the crash and so far, no charges have been laid.

Domagalska had been with the force since 2005, most recently working out of 11 Division.

“Ewa was highly-regarded by the people she worked with and she’ll be sorely missed by her family and her police family,” Peel Const. Thomas Ruttan said Monday.

“We appreciate the kind words from the people in the community… we know that the next few days are going to be difficult.”

Plans for Domagalska’s funeral service haven’t yet been set.
