Speed, alcohol believed to be factors in Milton crash: police

Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in a crash in Milton early Friday that has left three young people fighting for their lives in hospital.

The accident happened around 4 a.m. on the No. 5 Sideroad near Esquesing Line, north of Highway 401 and west of Trafalgar Road. A motorist who passed by the crash scene called 911.

When officers arrived they found two men and a woman had been ejected from the 2010 Honda Civic. The two men, ages 19 and 21, were taken to Sunnybrook hospital and the woman was taken to St. Michael’s Hospital. All three are listed in critical condition.

The fourth person in the car, a woman, was taken to Milton District Hospital. She’s since been treated and released.

The two men are from Mississauga and the two women, ages 19 and 21, are from Milton, police said.

“It appears speed was definitely a factor in this,” Sgt. Paul Davies of Halton Regional Police said. “The vehicle did become airborne at one point. We’re also investigating the possibility that alcohol may have played a factor in this as well.”

Alcohol bottles and cans were allegedly found around the scene.
