Toronto firefighters make quick work of North York blaze

Toronto firefighters made quick work of an apartment fire in North York Monday morning.

The fire began in an air conditioning unit in a bedroom around 2 a.m. on Old Meadow Lane, near Allen Road and Lawrence Avenue.

The cause of the blaze was likely electrical failure, district chief Stephan Powell told CityNews.ca.

“There were heavy smoke and flames coming from the unit when we got there,” he said. Powell said 10 apparatus and 30 firefighters were called to the scene.

The building was evacuated and ventilated. Residents have since been allowed back in, except for the unit where the fire occurred.

No one was injured. The cost of the damage is estimated at $60,000.
