Police are investigating the second suspicious church fire in as many days after flames erupted at an East York parish Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were called to the Church of the Canadian Martyrs on Plains Road, near Woodbine Avenue and O’Connor Drive, around 1:30 a.m. and managed to quickly douse the blaze in a garage attached to the church.
Two people were seen running away from the scene after the flames broke out.
On Tuesday the Peel Regional Police bomb squad was called in after firefighters found what was thought to be a pipe bomb on the floor of St. Jerome’s Catholic church in Brampton as they battled a fire in the building.
The device shipped away from the scene and destroyed.
Police believe the Brampton church fire may be connected to another fire not long before at a townhouse complex under construction near Steeles Avenue and Mississauga Road.
