Man says Toronto police brushed off call about suspected Magnotta snuff film

A lawyer from Montana says Toronto police brushed him off when he tried to tell them about an online snuff film that reportedly shows Luka Magnotta killing and dismembering a man.

Roger Renville said he stumbled across the disturbing video and called Toronto police on Sunday, after learning through his own research that a person with the same account had posted videos of animal torture from Toronto.

According to Renville, they weren’t interested in the story, which has now garnered worldwide attention and sparked an international manhunt.

“When I persisted (the officer) said, ‘Listen to how your story sounds. It doesn’t make sense. Why would a killer videotape his own crime and then put it on the internet for everybody to see?’ “

“I said at least give me an email address so that I can send you the link, and he said they would not be needing that.”

Toronto police are investigating his claim, but Const. Wendy Drummond says she’s heard the recorded call and challenges some of the lawyer’s statements.

“He was not ignored,” Drummond insists. “A call was filed when he placed that call. And the (officer) provided reasonable information and advice to call Crime Stoppers.”

“I’ve listened to the call that came in and at no time was the link address ever mentioned or given.”

Renville is haunted by the video, and thinks Toronto police should have taken his call more seriously.

“A few seconds into the video when the person is obviously being stabbed to death, even further into the video when sexual abuse is occurring and dismemberment and so on…I turned away.

“And part of what was so disturbing was this damn soundtrack over the video, this music.”

Luka Magnotta remains at large.
