Rodney King dead at 47

Rodney King — the man whose videotaped beating by police led to the 1992 Los Angeles riots — has died.  He was 47.

His fiancée Cynthia Kelly reportedly found him at the bottom of his Rialto, Calif., swimming pool Sunday morning.

In 1991, King was brutally beaten by police after he lead them on a high-speed chase.

Video showed officers striking King with their batons more than 50 times.

He had 11 fractures and other injuries and underwent surgery for five hours.

The Los Angeles riots broke out in 1992 after the acquittal of the four white police officers accused of assaulting King.

Fifty-five people were killed in the riots and thousands more were hurt.
