Toddler found alone in van taken to SickKids

A toddler found alone in a van on Saturday afternoon has been taken to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children as a precaution, police tell CityNews.

The girl is not quite three years old, police said. It’s not known how long she was left in the vehicle.

“It’s against the law – you can’t leave children unattended,” Sgt. Kyle Petrie said.

“It’s aggravating that somebody would do it on a day like today, when we’ve just had a heat wave. It’s dangerous and illegal.”

Temperatures in Toronto reached a high of around 25 C Saturday afternoon.

A passerby spotted the girl on Bonnycastle Street, near Queens Quay and Sherbourne Street, just before 5 p.m. and called 911.

Emergency crews had to smash the window to get the child out, Petrie said.

Police said the child is expected to be fine. The parents of the child were at SickKids with their daughter.
