VIA rail service resumes in east end after person hit by train

VIA rail service has resumed in the city’s east end after a person was struck and killed by a train.

The fatal crash happened near Greenwood and Walpole avenues around 10:20 a.m.

Toronto police said the death was a suicide and the victim’s name will not be released.

There was no train service as police investigated. GO train service between Union Station and Danforth GO was also affected, but has since resumed.

There were 140 people on board the train at the time, VIA spokesperson Malcolm Andrews told CityNews.ca.

The delay lasted about two and a half hours, and two other trains were also delayed. No passengers were injured, Andrews said.
