Man, 25, shot to death in Mississauga

Police are searching for a suspect after a 25-year-old Toronto man was shot to death in Mississauga this weekend.

Officers were called to Brandon Gate Drive, near Goreway Road and Steeles Avenue, just after 2 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived the found the victim, Dennis Alexander, suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was pronounced dead in hospital.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses to come forward. In a news release issued Monday, Peel police said the shooting happened during a “large gathering” and neighbours confirmed that a rowdy party went on throughout the day and night.

“It was a big party, they were loud,” said one area resident. “But (there’s) parties all the time and there’s never any violence. It’s a shock to us.”

“We didn’t think it would turn out like that.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward, and they want to speak to the people who dropped the victim off at hospital.

“There would probably have been quite a few people that did see this,” said Const. Thomas Ruttan.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (905) 453-2121 ext. 3205 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

The fatal shooting marks Peel Region’s seventh homicide of 2012. It was also one of four shootings over the weekend in the GTA.

A man was shot near Ashbridges Bay following the public fireworks display on Sunday night. Another man was shot in the abdomen near Keele and Finch early Monday. And a bullet grazed the leg of a two-year-old girl sitting in a parked car near Sentinel Road and Sheppard Avenue on Saturday night.
