Head found in Montreal park belongs to Jun Lin

Human remains found in a Montreal park are indeed the head of Jun Lin, the Chinese student whose body was dismembered in a particularly gruesome murder that made international headlines.
Lin’s torso was found in a suitcase in late May, while other body parts were mailed to offices of political parties in Ottawa and to two Vancouver schools.
Police said detectives were notified Wednesday that the body part found in Angrignon Park on Sunday was the head of the 33-year-old computer science and engineering student.
Lin’s family was informed of the match, they said.
Authorities had previously said the only body part missing was the head.
Luka Magnotta, 29, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death and will appear in court next year.
Lin’s torso was found May 29 after a janitor at a Montreal apartment building became suspicious of a suitcase left behind after garbage pickup and opened it.
On the same day, a foot arrived in a package delivered to the Conservative Party of Canada in Ottawa and a hand was intercepted at a Canada Post warehouse in the same city before it could be delivered to the Liberals.
The other body parts arrived at the Vancouver schools about a week later.
The stomach-churning details of the slaying, and the subsequent international police search, whipped up a storm of media interest around the world.
Magnotta, 29, was arrested in Berlin shortly after Montreal police issued a warrant for his alleged connection to Lin’s death.
The male escort and porn actor, originally from Scarborough, Ont., was accompanied on the flight home by a half-dozen Montreal police officers.
He opted for a jury trial and is expected to have a preliminary hearing next March.
Besides the first-degree murder charge, Magnotta is charged with defiling Lin’s corpse. He is also charged with harassing Prime Minister Stephen Harper and MPs and publishing and mailing obscene material.
Detectives are also investigating a video that was posted online, which allegedly shows Lin’s killing.
